Remembering a Dear Friend
One can compare each of Imagine Housing’s years to a vintage of wine. Both the wine’s vintage and Imagine Housing’s “vintage” are influenced by the events of the year.
For wine, the sun, rain, wind and soil impact a particular grape, thereby transforming the wine that is produced later.
By comparison, Imagine Housing’s vintage is affected by a myriad of factors, including the economy and community need. Most importantly, Imagine Housing is influenced by the people we serve and by those
who support us.
Imagine Housing’s vintage was forever changed on December 18, 2010 with the loss of a dear friend and
volunteer, Don Barron. Don Barron was a long time auction volunteer and, along with his wife, Board member Lucy Sannes, was essential to establishing Imagine Housing’s auction as an exciting event to find incredible wines. Don was involved with many local wineries and had friends throughout the Washington wine industry. He and Lucy tirelessly worked on procuring, storing and displaying the wines that have become a key component of Imagine Housing’s auction successes. Don’s sweet smile, gentle good humor and quiet help will be greatly missed this year and each year to come.
The Value of a Volunteer
In January 2010, Imagine Housing was connected to Monika Jackson through Volunteer Match. Within a month Monika began volunteering with the Resident Services Program at Johnson Hill and Mine Hill Apartments. In a recent conversation, she shared that she loves working with the children because of their energy, excitement and the stage of life they are in. “It’s just great what you get out of it,” said Monika, as she described this worthwhile experience. Over her year of service at Johnson Hill and Mine Hill, Monika has seen the children change and improve in their interactions with her. Her consistent involvement week after week has helped to develop a level of acceptance and trust between her and the kids. Monika laughed as she said, “One of the reasons the kids get excited to see me each week is because I bring them snacks.” Kyle Andersen, the Resident Services Coordinator at Johnson Hill and Mine Hill, appreciates Monika’s presence as an additional positive, adult role model within the community. Monika’s enthusiasm, compassion, and desire to serve the children at Johnson Hill and Mine Hill are an incredible asset to our Resident Services Program and to our entire organization. We are very thankful to have her on board!
